Smartlipo™, or Laser Lipolysis, is a new fat-melting technique. It can help patients lose a size or two with little down time, and without the usual effects of loose, bumpy skin associated with traditional liposuction. Instead of vacuuming fat from parts of the body, Smartlipo™ melts away fat cells. Smartlipo™ was approved here in the U.S. by the FDA in October 2006, after widespread use over several years in Italy and South America.

Is Smartlipo™ right for me?

Almost anyone can be a good candidate for Smartlipo™. In general, the ideal candidate: 1. Is in good health, exercises regularly, is within 25 lbs. of his or her ideal weight; 2. Has one or more areas of local body fat deposits that have responded poorly to diet and exercise; and 3. Is bothered by these fatty areas, and is motivated to get rid of them permanently.

To be a good candidate for Smartlipo™, you should have realistic expectations about the procedure’s capabilities. And while Smartlipo™ can improve your appearance and self-confidence, it won’t necessarily match your mental ideal, nor will it cause other people to act differently toward you.
